Guide for Country Statements to the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas IV Session

Country delegations wishing to present a statement to the IV Session of the Regional Platform for disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas (RP14) are asked to submit their written statement to the regional office of UNISDR for the Americas no later than 16 May by sending email to Jennifer Guralnick jguralnick@eird.org, with the subject: Country Declaration on behalf of [Name of Country]

Written statements should be a maximum of 3 pages, single-spaced and font Arial 12.

A maximum of 5 minutes will be allotted to country delegations for presentation of their statement.

The 10-year international disaster risk reduction plan, the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015 (HFA) - Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters, is the inspiration for knowledge, practice, implementation, experience and the science for disaster risk reduction. As the world heads toward the completion date of the HFA, it is important to outline an approach and shape the discussions on an international framework for disaster risk reduction and resilience to be considered at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Sendai, Japan in March 2015.

In this context, official statements to the IV Session of the Regional Platform "Reducing Disaster Risk to Safeguard Development Gains" are encouraged to focus on the following:

  • The main tendencies, achievements, challenges and opportunities regarding progress in the HFA;

  • Ways forward surrounding DRR and climate change adaptation (CCA) as inherent to sustainable development and as key elements of resilient development policies, planning and investment;and/or

  • Specific recommendations surrounding the new post-2015 international framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2025).

On behalf of the organizers of this event we thank you for your collaboration and look forward to your participation in the Regional Platform for DRR in the Americas, a key milestone in the path leading to the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Warm regards,

UNISDR Regional Office-the Americas
