CALL FOR PAPERS: SPECIAL ISSUE ON DISASTER AND SOCIETY IN ARGENTINA - THE NETWORK

Source: Network of Social Studies in the Prevention of Disaster in Latin America
Buenos Aires, Argentina

August 28, 2013 - A vast territory; a wide diversity of landscapes and productive lands; large and small cities on the banks of rivers and mountain plains' villages in the foothills of high peaks, volcanoes and vast arid plateaus. Argentina is not a country that frequently appears on the front pages of newspapers for "large-scale" disaster. However, this does not mean that the risks are not present.

The question then arises: What are those risks? Who should face them and under what conditions? What social processes shape them? How risk is currently managed and how were past disasters handled? How do we prepare for the future?

The purpose of this compilation is to bring together case studies from different regions of Argentina that fit the social vision of disasters. This call therefore encourages contributions of papers that are products of research projects, as well as management and investigation-action experiences.

Regardless of whether risks have manifested themselves in disasters suddenly or slowly, whether they are small, medium or large, they deserve a critical analysis, if as professionals we aim to contribute to further understanding on the subject in order to improve the conditions of life in our society.
