Integrating climate change adaptation, development and disaster risk reduction
Description: Since 1995, ECHO started to invest in Disaster Preparedness in Latin America and Caribbean region more than 500 projects implemented by 77 different partners for a total amount invested of € 209.8 million in the three sub-regions.
Funds are limited for Humanitarian assistance, in that sense preparedness for response and early action should be at the centre of ECHO's approach to DRR and Resilience, enabling more effective co-operation with development actors. Rather than comparing Disaster Preparedness capacities across countries, a comparison across disasters (crises), may help to optimize forthcoming investments. In 2016 the region has been marked by major disasters (El Nino, Floods in Paraguay, Earthquake in Ecuador, Hurricane Matthew) lessons have to be learnt and good practices identified.
