For the municipality of Campinas (state of São Paulo, in Brazil), the participation in the Campaign is an opportunity to strengthen their work in risk reduction and exchange experiences with national and international actors. The mayor of Campinas, Mr. Jonas Donizette, requested that the city would support all other cities in the region that requested help to integrate the campaign "Resilient Cities" and mainly, to generate knowledge of disaster prevention in the community of Campinas. We understand that the future of Civil Protection is in the integrated and systemic work between government and community that allows an effective and efficient management of disasters. The campaign is part of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, and offers this possibility, where government and community work with an important common goal: disaster reduction and the consequent preservation of life.
