This year, 2018, the celebration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction focuses on target C of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction: Reduce direct disaster economic loss in relation to global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030. It also conveys the message that disasters have a human cost and reducing economic losses from disasters can transform lives.
