The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, adopted by Member States of the United Nations in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan, recognizes the importance of people with disabilities in inclusive risk management, not only as disproportionately affected in disaster or emergency situations, but as agents of change with a key role in disaster risk assessment and in the design and implementation of policies, plans and standards.
The Sendai Framework has targets focused on increasing national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020, enhanced international cooperation to developing countries and increased availability of multi-hazard early warning systems.
On Friday, October 13, the UNISDR Regional Office of the Americas will launch the International Disaster Reduction Day with a discussion on Disaster Displacement. The forum will address the issue of displacement at the national and regional levels, emphasizing this year's theme and target b of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
"Reduce significantly the number of people affected globally by 2030 and achieve reduce the world average per 100,000 people in the 2020-2020 decade from 2005-2015" This event will be held in conjunction with the Red Cross and Crescent Federation.
On Sunday, October 15, the UNISDR Regional Office of the Americas will launch an event on Panama's Coastal Band to celebrate the International Day of Disaster Reduction with a family event of public awareness, sports and educational activities to promote resilience at the local level. This event will be held in conjunction with the Red Cross and Crescent Federation. #ResilienceForAll
In addition to other initiatives that will take place in each country around this October 13 (DDR), it is also suggested consider to ride a bike for resilience on Sunday 15 of October, in coordination with the respective authorities, as a space for coexistence in the streets of non-motorized media and with a central theme reducing the risk of disasters, including the reduction of greenhouse gases.
For the online aspect, a public awareness campaign will be organized on social networks regarding prospective issues on disasters that have affected the largest number of people in the region. Online quizzes will be organized to raise awareness of disaster preparedness and awareness; as well as a social networking campaign with risk reduction messages for the purpose of sharing experiences for #HomeSafeHome
