Voices
of Victims and their Families
Five
years after Hurricane Mitch
This
study was conducted in February and March 2004, in the context of a cooperation
agreement signed between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
and CEPREDENAC. The study gathered a sample of this population through
interviews, valuable observations related to their recovery, reconstruction
and current life conditions, beyond the enormous drama experienced and
the immediate actions taken after the disaster. The information recorded
also included the circumstances in which the disaster occurred, and their
viewpoints about capacity building and strengthening in terms of risk
prevention and vulnerability reduction in case of future emergency and
disaster situations.
