The Regional Disaster
Information Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (CRID) is pleased
to announce its new Web site.
The site is available
in English and Spanish. It helps to fulfill four of CRIDs main functions:
- A Documentation
Cen-ter, specializing in disas-ter information, that offers online access
to more than 12,000 biblio-graphical references to publications available
at CRID or other libraries or information centers on the subject.
- An Information
Center, which systematizes data about experts, courses and seminars,
and Web sites related to risk prevention and management, mainly in Latin
America and the Caribbean.
- A Resource Center,
which compiles full-text documents, training material for disaster response
and information management, and the development of a Controlled Vocabulary
that can serve as a multilingual thesaurus of disaster terminology.
- A Focal Point
for the Coordination of the Regional Disaster Information Center, with
background and current information about the constitution of the System,
basic information about each country in the region, the national authorities
responsible for risk management, and other organizations involved in
the issues; also agreements, declarations, and resolutions emerging
from presidential summits and international forums.
Please feel free to
send in your comments regarding our site so that we can align it with
your needs. Similarly, please submit any documents or other information
that may be of interest to the disaster reduction community in Latin America
and the Caribbean.
