Training Manual (No. 12) for JASS: “Learning to conserve water and protect our micro-watersheds”

This manual serves as a guide for municipalities and other institutions that are involved in the training of the Administrative Board of Sanitation Services (JASS), body responsible for the participatory management of basic environmental sanitation at the community level.

  • This manual has two main sections:Micro-watershed and water, whose development will allow the JASS to learn more about micro-watersheds and existing resources, in particular water, as well as to consider the supply and demand of water resources. This section also includes practices increase water conservation, especially within sanitation systems.
  • Micro-watershed and disasters. This section focuses on learning about and reflecting on disaster risk management, a field in which risk assessment and analysis are essential. One of the basic tools used is a risk map that allows for identifying hazards, especially those related to sanitation infrastructure, and implementing risk reduction, prevention, preparedness and response measures, as well as carrying out reconstruction processes after the occurrence of a disaster.
