As a tourism professional, working in public management in the tourism sector and as a university professor, my interest in participating as an advocate of the Resilient Cities Campaign in Argentina, lies in the opportunity to work with local communities and provinces to communicate the importance of understanding the risks that surround and may affect established and emerging tourism destinations. This contribution – based on an informational, communication and educational process - will facilitate the establishment of processes of change, planning and management in the various socio-economic sectors under a comprehensive vision of sustainable local development. In this sense, there is also a great potential to guide municipalities and provinces in the creation of programmes and projects that build upon the Regional Strategic Plan of Argentina (2004) and the Federal Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism (2004), focused on disaster risk reduction in order to build an integrated, balanced, sustainable and socially equitable Argentina – and considering the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 -2015: Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters” (UNISDR).
