“My expectation is to continue working with the Making Cities Resilient Campaign and transform Brazil into a more humane and more resilient country. Presently, the level of increased disaster risks is a major challenge for society. This also increases the need for us to be better prepared to respond to possible adverse situations that may affect people, the environment and economic conditions that contribute to social inequalities. The Resilient Cities Campaign is a strategic tool for Risk Reduction. Creating security systems for disaster reduction increases the perception of investment opportunities and the quality of the infrastructure improves.
We define an outline of the city of Campinas to provide support at the regional and national level, then we approach the issue in a national debate, create teams to help local administrators and coordinate several workshops to increase interest in the campaign. As a result, more municipalities showed their commitment. Currently, the teamwork of the city of Campinas has helped 36 municipalities that have completed accession, there are another 05 [05?] in process.
We realized the need to expand to other cities and disseminate the Hyogo Framework for Action. For the future, we intend to further expand the work begun by strengthening the municipalities involved, actively participating in the proposed activities and provide the necessary support to the efforts in the best way possible, placing the country among the top three in the world for adherence of the municipalities to the “Making Cities Resilient” campaign.
