Delegations are invited to present official statements of up to five minutes. Instructions for official statements below.
Who can make a statement?
All delegations can express their interest in making an Official Statement. Only registered and confirmed participants can submit the request on behalf of their delegation.
How can I make a statement?
There are two types of statements– written and oral.
Written Statements: we encourage all delegations to submit a written statement via the RPA website. In general, written statements are around 500 words.
Oral Statements: in addition to a written statement, all government delegations may deliver oral statements at the Regional Platform. A maximum of 5 minutes is allocated. As such, countries are encouraged to ensure that their statements, when delivered orally, do not exceed 5 minutes.
Other delegations can submit a request to make an oral statement, however, time slots are limited and we may not be able to accommodate every request.
Oral Official Statements will be delivered in a parallel session room from a podium and will be video recorded and available by webcast on the Regional Platform website. The list of speakers will be available on this website prior to the Regional Platform.
Will the Statements be made public?
All statements, whether oral or written, will be available to the public on the Regional Platform website and may also be distributed to the media.
For further information related to Official Statements please review the Guidelines document. Or contact rpa@eird.org.

Guidance on the format for Official Statements

• Official Statements to the Fifth Session of the Regional Platform "Towards Risk Informed Sustainable Development" are encouraged to focus on the following: - The challenges and opportunities in implementing the Sendai Framework at national and local levels (Progress since the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and national targets as per the Sendai Framework); and/or - Ways forward surrounding DRR and climate change adaptation (CCA) as inherent to sustainable development and as key elements of resilient development policies, planning and investment (Baseline situation related to the Sendai Framework's global targets).
